Netanyahu agrees to send Israeli officials to Washington to discuss prospective Rafah operation

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to send a team of Israeli officials to Washington to discuss with Biden administration officials a prospective Rafah operation, according to White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan. Sullivan says each party is "making clear to the other its perspective." The White House has been skeptical of Netanyahu’s plan to carry out an operation in the southern city of Rafah, where about 1.5 million displaced Palestinians are sheltering, as Israel... Biden signs executive order on advancing study of women's health while chiding 'backward' GOP ideas

President Joe Biden has signed an executive order aimed at advancing the study of women’s health by strengthening data collection and providing better funding opportunities for biomedical research. During a reception at the White House on Monday, he also chided Republicans for having “no clue about the power of women” and said they were “about to find out” come November’s election. Women make up half the population, but their health is underfunded and understudied. It wasn’t until the 1990s that... Читать дальше...

Too much Atlantic in Atlantic City: Beach erosion has casinos desperately seeking sand by summer

There's a little too much Atlantic in Atlantic City this year for some casinos. Weeks of winter storms have washed away much of the sand from the gambling resort's north end beaches. That's left the Ocean, Resorts and Hard Rock casinos urgently trying to get federal officials to accelerate a sand replenishment project planned for sometime this year. Atlantic City has long said its beaches set it apart from gambling attractions elsewhere. But without the beaches, it could be a harder sell attracting tourists and gamblers. Читать дальше...

$510 Dodgers jerseys and $150 caps. Behold the price of being an Ohtani fan in Japan

The Dodgers are paying $700 million for Shohei Ohtani. That means his loyal fans in Japan will be paying big time for his merchandise. A store called Selection in Tokyo's Shijuku area sells gear for all 30 MLB teams, but store employees say about 60-70% of the sales are for Dodgers gear, or Ohtani-specific gear. And it's not cheap. One Dodgers cap with Ohtani's signature on the side and his No. 17 goes for $150. A Dodgers uniform top sells for about $500. If you want a baseball that Ohtani threw last year in an MLB game, that will be $22,000.

It is time to fill out those NCAA Tournament brackets with the arrival of March Madness. Duke statistics Professor Ezra Miller says an informed fan has perhaps a 1 in 2 billion chance at picking a perfect ballot. Experts say artificial intelligence has been used by bracketologists for years and is always evolving. In Vermont, 'Town Meeting' is democracy embodied. What can the rest of the country learn from it?

Democracy takes many forms, and some are more direct than others. In Vermont, the tradition of Town Meeting is very direct. Consider Elmore, where on a recent day the business of running a town and participating in its administration was thrown open to everyone for the yearly meeting. The nuts and bolts of town business and decision-making get done, and in the process something unfolds that doesn't happen everywhere in the republic these days — in-person politics that are civil, friendly and followed by lunch.

Who is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and why is he running for president?

The lack of excitement many Americans feel about a presidential rematch has heightened interest in alternatives to the major-party candidates — none more so than Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose famous name has helped him build buzz for his independent bid. Kennedy is a huge longshot to win electoral votes, much less the presidency. But his campaign events have drawn large crowds of supporters and people interested in his message. He plans to announce his vice presidential nominee later this month in Oakland... Читать дальше...

The Republican governor has said repeatedly he does not believe public funds should be used for gender-affirming care. Читать дальше...

Lower courts have sided with the states... Читать дальше...
