Local authorities in Zabul province, Southern Afghanistan, report that one child has died and five others have been injured as a result of a mine explosion in the province.
The provincial security command’s press office has announced that the incident occurred on Friday, May 10, in the Safa district.
Previously, unexploded mines have taken the lives of dozens, including children, throughout the years in various parts of the country.
According to the first three months’ statistics of the current year from the Ministry of State for Disaster Management of Afghanistan, 37 people have died, and 71 have been injured due to unexploded ordnance in Afghanistan.
According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Afghanistan is one of the countries most contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance, with children making up 85% of the victims of these explosives.
