The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations of Afghanistan announced that nearly two thousand Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan have been returned to Afghanistan, both voluntarily and forcibly, in the past two days.
On Sunday, April 28th, the Ministry stated that 1,022 migrants residing in Iran returned to the country via the Islam Qala border crossing.
The ministry added that 55 of the individuals mentioned, including families and singles, were identified as needing assistance and were referred to the International Organization for Migration (9OIM) office to receive food and non-food items.
According to the source, seven unaccompanied children were referred to the WARCHILD institute for family tracing, 88 families received 10,000 Afghanis each, and 120 individuals received a free SIM card from the obligated committees at the border. Additionally, 186 individuals have benefited from health services.
Meanwhile, the Ministry, in a separate newsletter, stated that 825 Afghan migrants returned to the country from the Torghundi and Spin Boldak border on April 27th.
The Ministry added that 527 family members and 23 released detainees from Pakistan’s prisons returned from the mentioned border and, after registering at the border command, were introduced to the International Organization for Migration offices, the World Food Programme, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Each family also received 10,000 Afghanis from the authorities.
Meanwhile, according to information from the border command of Nangarhar’s Torkham province, 47 families comprising 268 individuals and 7 individuals who crossed the border forcibly returned from Pakistan and were introduced to the offices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration after registering at the migrant affairs department.
