Following the increase in the expulsion and detention of Afghan refugees in Turkey, authorities of this country have announced that they have detained 45 refugees in the cities of “Balikesir” and “Çanakkale Fortress.”
Turkish media reported on Friday, April 19th, that 29 Afghan refugees were detained in the city of “Balikesir” and another 16 refugees in the city of “Çanakkale Fortress.”
Authorities of this country have also reported the detention of four smugglers on charges of trafficking these refugees.
Previously, Turkish media had reported on the detention of hundreds of Afghan refugees for “lack of residence permits in Turkey.”
On Thursday, April, 18th, Turkish coast guards also reported the detention of 40 Afghan refugees on the shores of “Ayvalık.”
The Turkish Ministry of Interior has emphasized that in 2023, 68,687 Afghan migrants were detained in this country, and some of them have been deported.
This comes as Turkish authorities have announced that operations to combat the entry and detention of illegal migrants throughout Turkey will continue.
It is worth mentioning that according to official statistics, more than 300,000 Afghan migrants live in Turkey.
