Intended as an oasis, the house is built on the family’s ancestral land in the heart of the Konkan belt to allow them to withdraw to their roots in the countryside. Tesche House is located in a residential condominium with large lands in the south of Brazil. The owner had bought the land with a small house built on it, which he only used at weekends. His intention was to turn it into a permanent house, which is why he initially requested a renovation project. After evaluating the program, the construction conditions of the house, and the budget, it was decided to demolish it and build a new one, on a different scale and adapted to his real needs.
BIG, in collaboration with BNIM and the University of Kansas School of Architecture & Design, has revealed a mass timber structure named the “Makers’ KUbe.” Designed for collaborative learning, the structure features a timber diagrid frame. All existence is born from the earth and is a circle that returns to the earth. TOILETOWA is an architecture of circulation and regeneration that makes this visible. More than just a toilet, it was built as an environmental education space attached to the headquarters of Ishizaka Corp in Oak Forest, which recycles industrial waste and serves as a model for a future waste-free, recycling-oriented society.
The site is surrounded by forests at the foot of the magnificent Mt.Asama. Looking for a place to enjoy the vitality of nature, we decided to design a small villa in this rich forest.
