49ers rookie QB Driskel improves after ‘dirtball’ debut
[...] yes, that’s a marked improvement for the rookie who tossed a series of passes he termed “dirtballs” in his NFL debut six days earlier.
“I got those out of my system,” the sixth-round pick said, smiling.
[...] Driskel rebounded from his shaky preseason opener (4 of 12, 20 yards) and completed 6 of 7 passes for 66 yards in the 49ers’ 31-24 win over the Broncos.
Driskel said he felt more comfortable, partly because he had a game of NFL experience and also because he received plenty of work in practice.
In the two joint practices with the Broncos, Driskel was also quite active as just-signed Christian Ponder was eased into the mix.
Given his youth and draft-pick status, Driskel, 23, figures to have the edge on Ponder, 28, if the 49ers keep three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster.
