CHP helicopter swoops in to rescue couple stranded at Lake Sonoma

A California Highway Patrol helicopter crew equipped with night-vision goggles swept across Lake Sonoma in the dark and early hours of Monday morning to rescue a Santa Rosa couple that became stranded after their boat got stuck in the mud Sunday evening.

The chopper crew quickly located the boat using night-vision goggles and the GPS coordinates given to them by the sheriff’s officials from the missing pair’s cell phone signals, officials said.



Besides being tired and cold, the two boaters did not complain of injuries or need any medical treatment, said Officer James Andrews, a spokesman for California Highway Patrol Air Operations.
