Showers, light snow fall in Northern California
Scattered showers moved through the Bay Area on Saturday following storms that brought about 300 lightning strikes to the Sacramento Valley and Sierra along with 13 inches of snow to Interstate 80’s Donner Pass.
The system hitting the Bay Area on Saturday was forecast to be much less potent than conditions farther north and in the mountains, where I-80 was temporarily closed in both directions in Placer County on Friday afternoon after some drivers spun out of control in the icy conditions.
The precipitation was mostly falling in the East Bay and Monterey areas Saturday morning, but showers were forecast to move throughout the region later in the day, with the greatest chance for rainfall happening from 11 a.m. through the evening, Mehle said.
The storm system was expected to clear out by Sunday, with a slight chance of wet weather greeting the North Bay again on Monday and Tuesday.
