Bay Area schoolkids marvel at eclipse: ‘It looked like a red banana’
The partially eclipsed sun peeked through foggy skies Monday morning, prompting a brief but rousing cheer on the playground at Mira Vista K-8 School in Richmond, before clouds once again blocked the view.
Miranda Mohr, 8, pulled off her special glasses and declared she had officially seen the spectacle.
“It looked like a red banana in the middle of space,” she said.
The viewing kicked off the first day of school at the Richmond campus, with students out on the playground participating in various activities to learn about the celestial event, including a game of BINGO, with American cities that experienced the complete eclipse marking the spots on the cards.
