New faces and familiar names: what the first Kurultai looks like

Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan’s Parliament has undergone a major renewal. At the same time, among the 145 deputies of the new Kurultai are former members of the Mazhilis and Senate. Here is who has returned to the renewed Parliament and how many first-time deputies received mandates.
How much have the party factions changed
Of the 145 deputies in the new Parliament, 111 are new faces. This means roughly one-fifth of the previous parliamentary corps has remained. More precisely, about 23 percent.
Among those who had already served in previous convocations, 34 people received mandates. Around 30 deputies moved over from the most recent, eighth convocation.
Here is the breakdown by party.
Adilet
The new Adilet Party secured 110 mandates. Almost one-fifth of its deputies already have parliamentary experience. Twenty of them previously served in the Mazhilis or Senate of the eighth convocation.
Those who moved from the Mazhilis to the Kurultai are: Konstantin Avershin, Askhat Aimagambetov, Marat Bashimov, Zhanarbek Ashimzhanov, Sergei Ponomaryov, Maksim Rozhin, Tatyana Savelyeva, Yerlan Sairov, Aidos Sarym, Yekaterina Smyshlyayeva, Unzila Shapak, Arman Kalykov, Zharkynbek Amantayuly, Tilekes Adambekov, Yulia Kuchinskaya and Nikita Shatalov.
Four deputies were senators — Yevgeny Bolger, Nurlan Beknazarov, Marat Kozhayev and Olga Perepechina.
The others are lawmakers who made a kind of parliamentary “comeback” after serving in earlier convocations. Among them are Aizhan Skakova, Nurlan Dulatbekov and Dinara Zakiyeva.
Auyl
The Auyl Party, which received 10 mandates, renewed 90 percent of its lineup. Of the ten deputies, only one — Serik Yegizbayev — had previously served in the Mazhilis.
Respublica
In Respublica, which received nine mandates, five deputies retained their seats. The party list includes Aidarbek Khojanazarov, Olzhas Kuspekov, Dinara Naumova, Yekaterina Smolyakova and Nurgul Tau. All of them previously served in the Mazhilis. As a result, the faction was renewed by 44 percent.
Ak Zhol
The Ak Zhol Democratic Party received eight mandates, while two Mazhilis deputies retained their seats — Daniya Yespayeva and Olzhas Nuraldinov. This means the parliamentary faction was renewed by 75 percent.
NSDP
The Nationwide Social Democratic Party (NSDP) received eight mandates. Three deputies retained their seats after the dissolution of the Mazhilis: Askhat Rakhimzhanov, Azhar Sagandykova and Nauryz Sailaubai. This means the faction was renewed by 62.5 percent.
How many women are in the new parliament
The new Kurultai will include 49 women, representing 33 percent of the total membership. In other words, nearly one in every three seats will be held by a woman.
For comparison: the eighth convocation of the Mazhilis included 18 women, or around 18 percent of its membership. The Senate had 10 female senators, accounting for about 20.4 percent.

Adilet — 37 women, or 33.6 percent of its deputies;
Auyl — 4 women, or 40 percent of its 10 deputies;
Respublica — 3 women, or 33.3 percent of its 9 deputies;
NSDP — 2 women, or 25 percent of its 8 deputies;
Ak Zhol — 2 women, or 25 percent of its 8 deputies.

Age of Kurultai deputies
The age difference between the youngest Kurultai deputy, 27, and the oldest, 65, is 38 years.
Overall, young people make up 12.4 percent of the Kurultai deputies — 18 people. Thirteen of them were elected on the Adilet Party list, while another five represent the other factions.
Note: in Kazakhstan, citizens aged 14 to 35 inclusive are officially considered young people. In other words, under the law, a person is considered young until they turn 36.
Kazakhstan has a new parliament
A new Constitution has been in force in Kazakhstan since July 1. After its adoption, the Mazhilis and Senate ceased operating. The bicameral Parliament was replaced by the unicameral Kurultai, consisting of 145 deputies elected for five-year terms.
Kazakhstan held its first Kurultai parliamentary election on August 23. It was the country’s tenth parliamentary election since 1991 and the first following the constitutional reform. The final voting results are available at the link.
