Ceremony of Kazakhstan’s accession to Abraham Accords may be held in Astana
Tengrinews.kz — Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Israel Isaac Herzog held extended talks with the participation of official delegations. During the meeting, the President of Kazakhstan stated that the Abraham Accords create a foundation for regional stability and the development of trade and economic ties, and also announced readiness to hold the official accession ceremony in Astana, citing Akorda.
The Head of State emphasized that the Abraham Accords create a solid basis for regional stability, as well as for intensifying trade and economic relations.
“Kazakhstan, as is known, is committed to the decision made earlier. We believe that the official ceremony of accession to the Abraham Accords could take place in Astana in the near future. I would also like to note that we are interested in strengthening cooperation in such important areas as artificial intelligence and digitalization.”
Isaac Herzog noted the steady development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Israel.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for Kazakhstan’s support of the unique spirit of interfaith dialogue and tolerance. I would also like to highlight the existing potential to double or even triple trade turnover and business ties between our countries. Practical steps can be taken in this direction.”
In particular, Israel is interested in launching direct flights.
“We also intend to continue work on expanding the legal and contractual framework between the two countries. A number of agreements are currently under preparation, including one on the elimination of double taxation,” the President of Israel emphasized.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on current regional and international issues.
Following the talks, the sides agreed to maintain regular political dialogue, develop contacts at all levels, and make joint efforts to bring the partnership to a qualitatively new level.
It should be recalled that the issue of Kazakhstan’s accession to the Abraham Accords was first publicly raised during Tokayev’s visit to Washington in November 2025. Later, the President confirmed that Kazakhstan had decided to become a party to the agreements.
According to the President, this decision meets Kazakhstan’s interests and is aimed at supporting peace and stability in the Middle East. Kazakhstan focuses on dialogue and negotiations as the main way to reduce tensions and find common ground.
What are the Abraham Accords
The Abraham Accords were signed in 2020–2021. At that time, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan agreed to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel with the participation of the United States. The format предусматривает gradual development of cooperation in economic, security, and technological spheres. Earlier, Akorda noted that Kazakhstan’s possible accession is a continuation of its established foreign policy line.
“A mechanism for reducing conflict”
Temirlan Abugali, an expert at the Department of International Security of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan, explained that the agreements are bilateral declarations that formalize the normalization of relations between countries and create additional diplomatic channels.
