Mangudadatu stressed that Panelo served as one of the counsels of the principal suspects in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre where 58 people were killed, including Mangudadatu’s wife and 31 journalists. In fact, Panelo was quoted in media as saying that the evidences against the Ampatuans were fabricated and pure lies.
