Tokayev to attend G20 summit at Trump’s invitation

Tengrinews.kz — President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will take part in the G20 summit scheduled to be held in Miami in December 2026. This was announced during a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur.
During the meeting, particular attention was paid to Kazakhstan’s initiative to strengthen the global water governance architecture, including President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s proposal to establish an international water organisation as a specialised UN agency.

“The meeting also included an exchange of views on preparations for the G20 summit scheduled for December 2026 in Miami, which the Head of State will attend at the invitation of US President Donald Trump. In this regard, the sides expressed readiness for further cooperation to ensure a substantive agenda at the highest level,” the statement said.

What is the G20
The G20 is an international forum bringing together the world’s largest economies. It accounts for around 85 percent of global GDP, more than 75 percent of global trade and about two-thirds of the world’s population.
In addition to 19 individual countries, the G20 also includes two regional organisations — the European Union and the African Union. Its meetings cover issues related to the global economy, trade, finance, energy, sustainable development and other global challenges.
Where and when will the summit take place
The G20 Leaders’ Summit will be held on December 14–15, 2026, in Miami, Florida, United States. The venue will be Trump National Doral Miami. The United States holds the G20 presidency in 2026, and the leaders’ summit will be the concluding event of the US presidency.
What will be discussed
The US presidency has identified three main G20 priorities for 2026: economic prosperity, affordable and reliable energy, and new technologies and innovation.
