Gunmen have abducted some students on their way to sit university examinations in Nigeria's Benue state. Officials said the gunmen attacked a passenger bus conveying the students and other passengers along the Otukpo-Makurdi expressway in Benue state. The Benue state governor, who confirmed the attack, did not specify how many were taken. However, local media said a total of 14 passengers were on board. The governor said search and rescue operations are underway to ensure the safe return of the students and others. No group has claimed responsibility for Thursday’s abductions. Benue has been a hot spot for armed violence in Nigeria’s northern region.
