Wattle Creek Winery vice president of sales Ben Williams wants me to know that there really are wattles - acacia trees with blossoms that are the state flower of Australia - at his family's winery on a hillside in Cloverdale. They're right next to the creek, of course.
His family is originally from Australia, he says, as he leads me around the landscape. And while a few pet kangaroos might make more of a patriotic statement, the trees and babbling streams sure are pretty.
These are features you won't see if you visit the winery's primary tasting room, located at San Francisco's Ghirardelli Square.
