The menu at Spices! has plenty of Chinese standards, but it's worth seeking out specialty dishes like twice-cooked Chinese bacon (i.e., pork belly), tangled up with chile oil and black bean sauce, slivers of firm tofu, stir-fried jalapeños and leek greens ($9.95).
While a handful of lamb and seafood dishes are priced out of bargain range, there are still plenty of deals, including fat, chewy Taiwanese-style udon noodles ($5.95) tossed with ground pork and seared green beans.
Flavors come at you in all directions with the pig ear with chile oil ($5.95), which is thinly sliced and served in a cold and crunchy salad, piled with scallions and garlic.
