No club shoots Sunday, March 3rd
Just a reminder that there will be no club shoots – JOP or regular shoot – on Sunday, March 3rd due to an event at Saanich Commonwealth. To check shoot dates or any cancelled shoots, we encourage you to regularly check the club’s events calendar on our website.
Set up/tear down reminder
Also.a friendly reminder that it is everyone’s responsibility to assist with putting up the targets and putting the stuff away. We’re all busy and we understand that there are times when you just cannot get there on time and/or must leave early, however please try and arrive a little early to help set up and if at all possible, stay until shooting is complete to help put the equipment away.
Indoor Shooting Etiquette
Yes, it’s getting crowded as our indoor shooting becomes more popular. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun experience for all our members while allowing us all to shoot as many arrows as we can in a session. Our butts are designed for 4 targets, however, 4 targets usually means 2 lines and we’d rather not do that as it complicates the process and makes for fewer shooting ends per session.
If all else fails, please talk to our Range Safety Officer (the one blowing the whistle) and they’ll help you out.
Monday Night Drop In shoots
Members are reminded that the Monday night archery ‘Drop In’ is a Saanich Recreation program, not Victoria Bowmen. There is no discount or passes for Victoria Bowmen members – you have to register online to be sure of a spot, and it usually fills up quite quickly. Participants can reserve a spot for each session up to 7 days in advance starting at 8:30 am. See more details and register here.
You may have noticed we now have a new protective net at the back of the gym at Saanich as well as upgraded/refreshed butt stands (with padded feet!). A sincere “thank you” to Vesa and Helena for procuring the new nets and upgrading the butt stands!
Two of our young JOP members scored big at the recent 2024 BC Winter Games held in Quesnel. Ruby Eliason won two gold medals – one in Girls Match Play Barebow and one in Girls 2 Day Aggregate Barebow event! And Keira Mansell placed 5th in the Girls 2 Day Aggregate Recurve event!
Great shooting and on behalf of the entire club, congratulations to you both.
The Canadian Archery Foundation is hosting an online fundraising auction in support of amateur archery athletes and teams who are representing Canada on the world stage. By participating, you’ll be directly contributing to the success of Canada’s 2024 teams. Your bids help non-Olympic athletes get the exposure they need to face high-level competition, master their mental game, and emerge victorious.
There are lots of great items to bid on, including trips, clothing, equipment, and much more. Visit Archery Canada Online Auction | Nonprofit Bidding to see the full list of items and to place bids.
