On the move and looking for an internet connection? It’s tempting to jump onto the free Wi-Fi at the coffee shop or shopping mall. But don’t do it unless you’ve got protection. Using unsecured Wi-Fi internet can be risky. It’s one of those times when it’s best to use a virtual private network, or VPN. They should be a part of most people’s internet security toolbox but they can seem technically bewildering for rookie users. Look for VPNs with a “kill switch” and a “no-logging” guarantee. Expect to pay a few dollars a month for a reputable VPN. Experts advise avoiding free services because the security might not be good enough.
