WITH temperatures set to soar this weekend, chances are many of us will be making the most of the sunshine in our gardens.
But is there anything more unsightly than kicking back and relaxing on your sun lounger, only to be met with the view of your garden fence that’s covered in green algae?
Well, that could soon be a problem of the past, because according to several savvy gardeners, there’s a bargain buy you can use that’ll get rid of it in an instant.
It comes after a woman named Jacqui took to Facebook group Gardening On A Budget Official and asked: “What is the best way to get rid of this green on my fence before painting please…or can I just paint over it?”
And luckily, she was flooded with responses, with many suggesting the same £1.50 solution – Astonish Mould and Mildew Spray.
“£1 spray bottles of Astonish Mould & Mildew remover” wrote one.
“I did quite a big area on my fence (that I painted last year) now fence looks like it’s just been repainted. Off to buy more.”

Meanwhile, a third agreed: “It 100% works.”
And a fourth added: “I used this on mine on Saturday. Came up brilliantly within a few hours.”
The bargain buy, which can be bought from the likes of Poundland or Asda, claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria, effectively remove mould and mildew within a matter of minutes.
Easy to use, you simply spray it on the targeted area, leave for a few minutes and then wipe it clean.
And what’s more is the active formula will even help to prevent any mould and mildew from reappearing further down the line.
Jacqui isn’t the only homeowner impressed with the product, as Fabulous previously told how a woman named Jennie was also a fan of the “amazing” product, which she said is as “cheap as chips.”
She advised: “Cheap as chips Mould and Mildew spray to get rid of green algae on fences.
“This fence has bugged me since we moved in..I painted it but within a few weeks it was green again.”
Jennie continued: “Someone suggested the mould and mildew spray and I was sceptical so thought I’d try just a few slats to see if it made and difference…did it last week and promptly forgot all about it..just been to check and its amazing!”

However, some social media users offered a word of warning, with one writing: “This will be horrendous for the environment, poison to birds which feed on the bugs living on the fence, poisoning the soil.”
Another commented: “I wouldn’t use this. My cat likes drinking from puddles. So if it rains I’d be worried.”
ABS Fencing shared a list of do’s and don’ts when it comes to cleaning green algae off your fence.
Elsewhere, others shared their alternative product suggestions that they swear by.
“Pressure washer it off or scrub with vinegar and water mixed takes it off great,” one social media user suggested.
Another wrote: “Spray with Wet and Forget – will clear it no problem!”
And a further recommended: “Spray & Leave from Home Bargains £7.99 for 4ltr tub – it’s really good!”
