A WOMAN has revealed that her husband won’t give their neighbour anymore lifts – leaving people totally divided.
The woman explained that whilst the couple initially offered to help their neighbour when she was going through a tough time, they no longer want to offer their services.
However, their withdrawal has been met with disappointment and anger from the neighbour, who has since described the pair as ‘hostile’ and ‘unkind’.
Left baffled by the situation, the woman took to Mumsnet to share her story.
Posting on am_i_being_unreasonable, under the username @Justablueone, the woman asked: “Is this ‘hostile, unkind and petty?’ I don’t think so!”
She then explained: “We have lived next door to our current neighbour for about six years, got on ok. No issues.
“She’s just come out of a very bad relationship about eight months ago and ever since has been an absolute nightmare.
“At first we probably made the mistake of being too available as we felt bad for her, so when she asked for favours we said ok (dropping to school/pick up occasionally, lift to places).”
The Mumsnet user then confirmed that her husband works at the same place as the neighbour, so offered to give her lifts.
She added: “She has had a job at the same place as my dear partner now for the last three months. She keeps asking for the same shifts as she expects a lift.
“We’ve had to say no and she’s extremely p****d off and has come round today and told me I’m hostile, unkind and petty and that I’m putting obstacles in her way when my dear partner is going there at the same time and it is unfair to make her life more difficult.”

To this, the woman asked Mumsnet users: “I don’t think that having boundaries is hostile, unkind and petty?”
But social media users were left totally divided by the situation – whilst some thought that the woman and her husband were indeed being ‘petty’, others didn’t see an issue.
One person said: “But I mean, if they are going to the same place at the same time, it makes sense to go together, surely?”
Another added: “What’s the issue with giving her a lift though? I’d do a favour for a neighbour if I was going their way to be honest.”
To this, the Mumsnet user replied: “It’s just the attitude she has, like ‘well you’re going there anyway’ rather than asking nicely.”

A third commented: “It does feel a bit petty for your husband and neighbour to be leaving the house at the same time to go to the same place, but for your husband to drive there and neighbour walk to the bus stop.
“I don’t know, it feels a bit mean. Is it you or your husband who’s against the lift?”
At the same time, someone else penned: “Why have you “had” to say no if your husband is going anyway? It does seem a bit petty, when he could easily help her at a difficult time.
“Obviously he doesn’t have to, but I’m not sure why he (you?) feels he has to stop it?”
However, at the same time, someone else wrote: “Lots of people use the journey to spend some time alone/have some headspace before and after work. Nobody is obliged to give anybody a lift.”
A second agreed: “I think you can set whatever boundaries you like. You’re not obliged to help her.”
I would never tie myself down to a regular lift share

Someone else simply penned: “You don’t have to give her a lift. Don’t feel bad about it.”
Whilst another user admitted: “I would never tie myself down to a regular lift share.
“Just because I drive, have my own car and I’m going to the same place/direction as someone else does not mean I’m a default taxi service.”
In response, the Mumsnet user explained: “At first we were happy to support but there comes a point where she needs to move on and not be dependent and needy.
“She’s just very intense. I said to her she should get herself a car.”
