“The work-from-home environment differs immensely from that of a traditional office space, which makes it even more important to consider how you utilize your workspace,” Tyler said.
“Having the right equipment and furniture that can provide the support needed on a day-to-day basis is so beneficial, especially for individuals who spend prolonged periods sitting or working at desks.”
Especially for those who spend much of the day sitting at a desk, ergonomic furniture can make a world of difference.
More than just comfortable chairs and a desk that doesn’t break your neck, the placement of your devices can also go a long way in terms of comfort.
“It can also mean making way for additional features such as a laptop stand to keep your computer monitor or laptop at the right eye level to prevent neck strain or having a footrest to keep your feet and lower body supported,” Tyler explained.
More than just having an organized workspace, Feng Shui expert Inbaal Honigman added that being in the right frame of mind was critical to boosting work productivity.
“Work on improving your general outlook and approach to working at home. Don’t just roll out of bed and plonk into your workstation,” she explained.
“Leave enough time to wake up gently, inhale and exhale deeply, shower, and get dressed as if you are going ‘into work’. Before you settle down, tidy around the space, open a window to let in some fresh air, and take a moment to balance your thoughts.”
For better feng shui, Inbaal encouraged WFHers to place their workstation toward the east, a direction that encouraged “luck and prosperity.”
The optimal desk position, Inbaal said, was at an angle towards the door, but not directly in front.
“This direction is known as the ‘command’ position, and it gives the person and the desk a position of power – beneficial for business interactions,” she explained.
“But don’t place your desk facing the corner of the room as it can compromise safety.”
The expert also recommended having a dedicated workspace that wasn’t your bedroom to avoid disrupting your place of rest.
Opt for lucky bamboo which brings prosperity, and steer away from a cactus, as this can disrupt the flow of chi.

Bright and fiery colors, such as red and orange, can promote passion and success, while airy colors can improve mental clarity and mood.
While mirrors can help open a space, Inbaal recommended keeping work desks mirror-free to avoid deflecting positive energy.
“They can redirect the energy in a weird direction if they are not placed intentionally,” Inbaal explained.
“Avoid mirrored desk items like Newton’s Cradle or mirror-ball pen toppers in your workspace.
“Desk plants are also a great addition to the workspace, especially when this is placed in the ‘wealth corner’ on the far left area of the desk,” she added.
