Cindy Currie (@mommycurrie) shares her secret to “aging gracefully” with her 100,000 followers on TikTok.
In this post, she focused on the tricky problem of cellulite and she figures she has it all worked out.
“We all have it and we all want to know how to get rid of it. Here are some tips to help,” she said.
It was more prevalent in women, she wrote, because of “hormones, genetics, lifestyle, and age.”
“It happens when fat deposits push through the connective tissues under the skin,” she said.
So how to address it? She had it down to five tips.
Forget about carbonated and sugary drinks, she advised.
“Just go for some plain, good filtered water,” she said.
“You’re going to have better gut health, better lymphatic drainage, and overall better appearance of your skin.”
These have to go, she said. They were serving no purpose.
“We’ve got to ditch the high sugar, high processed foods,” she said.
She suggested what should go on your grocery list.
“It should include all the rainbow of fruits and vegetables, high in vitamin C and lots of antioxidants,” she said.
“Foods high in Omega-3 like salmon, protein, whole grains, even nuts, and seeds. And pick up some decaffeinated green tea for detoxification.”
It might be an effort, but regular exercise was important too.
“Cardio and strength training. Both are super important for burning calories and strengthening muscles,” she said.
“Your cardio should be low-impact, cardio that helps to decrease your cortisol levels.”
“Half of the battle of getting rid of cellulite is helping to build up the connective tissues,” she said.
She had some statistics.
“From the age of 25, your body produces one to two percent less collagen every year,” she said.
“As collagen is our most abundant structural protein, it’s what keeps those connective tissues strong.
“Without that strength of connective tissues that’s how the fat can push through.
“By using a collagen that is highly absorbant your body knows what to do with it and uses it to strengthen those connective tissues in that dermis layer,” she continued.
She uses collagen in combination with hyaluronic acid, which has been proven to be effective in reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
“Hyaluronic acid also helps your skin to be very fluid and supple,” she added.
Finally, she advocated massaging your skin with castor oil.
“It is the only oil known to penetrate the deep dermis layer of your skin,” she said.
“It’s not only going to help reduce the inflammation but improve the circulation.”
Using the flat of your hands or your knuckles, work the oil in, she advised.
“Massage it in the back of your legs, your bum, and even the back of your arms,” she said.
She signed off with a message of reassurance to her followers.
“Cellulite is normal at any age in any size.”
