AN employee had the perfect response to an appalling text from a boss who tried to cancel his dream family holiday.
An Australian worker Noel was preparing to fly to Bali for his brother’s wedding when his employer insisted he stayed.
The message exchange has been shared on TikTok by Michael Sanz – an outsourcing expert who regularly posts workplace interactions.
Noel has requested time off to attend a family gathering seven months ahead.
But just a week before his long-awaited trip, he received a message from his boss, Nick, who notified him of cancelling his leave.
The text read: “Jenny has resigned, so we need to cancel your leave next week – all hands on deck while we try to replace her.”
The boss even went as far as to advising HR to change Noel’s leave to a few months later.
Shocked at the message, Noel has replied that he can’t cancel the trip that he has already paid for.
He also mentioned that his children were in the wedding party but he was willing to help his workplace before the departure.
But Nick kept insisting, asking Noel to fly out for the wedding over the weekend for just three days instead of the requested three weeks.
He added: “Not sure what you can do for 3 weeks in Bali haha.”
Michael commented on the interaction, saying he would be “furious” in Noel’s shoes.
Noel said that although he felt “terrible” for the company, he couldn’t call off or amend his holiday.
He wrote back: ” It’s a family trip, we haven’t been together for years and I haven’t had annual leave in 3 years.
“It’s also no one’s business how I spend my leave.”
To which Nick said: “Mate, can’t stress enough, your leave is cancelled, we just can’t do it. I’m sorry.”
This was the last straw for Noel who decided to re-think his employment following the shocking message.
He stated that he would be taking his leave earlier and “doesn’t want to come back to work now”.
In a message, he wrote: “While away I will think about if working with a company that doesn’t promote boundaries is a place I really want to work at.”
Michael has praised Noel for acting politely and reasonably throughout the whole interaction.
He also revealed that the messages were sent to him by the boss who tried to expose the employee.
Michael added that the boss showed no “care factor for his team member” and called his actions “appalling”.
He said: “The pressure should not be on the staff all the time to be at peak performance just because the business can’t get their admin and their staffing in line.”
The video has since accumulated over 667,000 views online with stunned people flooding the comments.
One person wrote: “Business Owner here. Unacceptable by the boss. Not the employees problem. Enjoy Bali!”
Another one added: “id hand in my resignation.”
A third person said: “This IS The reason they have trouble with staffing, pure and simple!”
“haha and now its the companies loss be as they have not only failed to keep him during his leave, but failed to keep him at all,” someone else said.
