RENTERS can never be too careful when taking on home decor and renovation projects.
One DIY pro shared her renter-friendly hack for hanging curtains, and you may be tempted to use the brilliant strategy even if you own your home.
DIY expert Jennifer shared a brilliant Target tool that’s her curtain rod hack for renters[/caption]Securing curtain rods in place is awkward, whether you’re installing brackets and rods for a completely new look or simply trying to swap out your curtains.
That’s where DIY pro Jennifer comes in. Known as OffLiveOak to her 432k TikTok followers, Jennifer is a genius when it comes to using common household tools for off-label, totally brilliant purposes.
“Y’all asked for a renter-friendly way to hang curtains,” she reminded viewers in a recent video. Inspiration struck while she was at Target, looking at the Command strips and other products in the same line from 3M.
“I saw these broom grippers and realized the diameter of a broom and the diameter of a curtain rod is the same,” Jennifer said.

The 3M broom grippers, $14.99, are intended to help your mop or broom stay upright when you aren’t using it. But when she saw them, Jennifer had a lightbulb moment.
“I decided to install these broom grippers horizontally, in place of the brackets that come with a curtain rod,” Jennifer explained.
The grippers are meant to hold brooms upright, but Jennifer repurposed them[/caption]To make sure there was enough space for her curtain rod, Jennifer installed four of the grippers, or $30 worth.
She spaced them over the windows at regular intervals to ensure there would be plenty of room for her curtains.
Once the grippers were applied, and Jennifer let the adhesive set for a while, she worked on placing her curtains over the rod.
“I made sure I had even amounts of fabric on each side of each gripper before I firmly pushed the rod into place,” the DIY expert explained.
To install the grippers, Jennifer spaced them evenly along the wall[/caption] She pushed the curtain rod into place, with drapes spaced evenly along it[/caption]By draping the fabric artfully, Jennifer was able to conceal the sticky grippers attached to the wall. “This completely hid them and I love the way it turned out,” she said.
To try this hack at home, you’ll need to have fairly lightweight curtain rods. According to the Command packaging, the broom grippers can hold up to four pounds each. Luckily, Jennifer was working with gauzy curtains, too.
In a comment, she added that the curtain rod itself was more likely to come out of the grippers than to fall off the wall completely.
“They’re actually pretty study,” she wrote, “but yes, if you pull them really hard, the pole will pop out.”
That’s good news for anyone who likes to change out their window treatments on a regular basis.

After allowing the rod to sit in place for a while, Jennifer said the strips held her curtain rod in place safely, and she wasn’t concerned about the drapes weighing too much.
“It’s very sturdy and secure, too,” she said, admiring her handiwork. “I don’t have any fears this is going to fall.”
Her final result looked professional and clean but required no tools for the installation[/caption]
