JESS Glynne’s record-breaking success hasn’t been enough to keep her in a recording deal.
I can reveal she has shockingly split from her label Atlantic after a series of rows about her future.
She wanted to reinvent herself and move away from radio-friendly songs.
But cash hungry music bosses wanted her to keep producing mainstream pop and that led to the fallout after eight years of working together.
A music insider said: “There was a series of rows and everyone was on a different page.
“Jess felt she had earned the right to control the direction of her music but the label thinking was, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. It came down to Jess wanting to produce music that resonates with her over churning out radio-friendly hits.
“She is keen to reset her career and almost start again after taking time out.”
Jess has had seven No1 singles — a record for a British female.
She is still keen to work with a big label rather than go totally independent and is in talks with a number of music heavyweights about a new deal.
Her 2015 debut I Cry When I Laugh topped the charts and went four times platinum.
Follow-up Always In Between also went to No1 in 2018.
Her most recent hit was festive single This Christmas, a 2020 No3.
More recently Jess has kept a low profile.
She deleted her Instagram account for a year after abuse from the cancel-culture mob over misguided comments about transgender people.
But it sounds like she is gearing up to return this year with a new sound and new approach.
Atlantic told The Sun last night: “This is an exciting period of creative growth and new beginnings for Jess. We wish her all the best.”
She’ll be back in the charts in no time.
