FOR many women, our hair is our crowning glory and we’ll try any shampoos, styling methods, and vitamins to ensure that our mane is in the best shape possible.
But one expert has warned that we may not realize how much damage we are inadvertently doing to our hair.
In a TikTok clip, user @MoniqueMRappier began: “Things you’re NOT supposed to be doing to your hair that you probably didn’t know about.”
The first common mistake is putting it in a tightly rolled bun. She said this hair style is actually very harmful to our locks.
The second error: “Applying shampoo to the bottom half of your hair.”
She emphasized that this tactic is especially damaging for dry hair, as too much of it can change the color and dehydrate it.
The next habit, she said, is possibly the worst out of all of them. And coincidentally, it’s the one that the majority of us do instinctively: you shouldn’t use a cotton towel to dry your hair.
The dryness and coarse texture that is apparent in a cloth towel can worsen split ends and create small rips along the root of the hair that weakens your overall mane.
Instead, opt for a microfiber towel.
And her last tip involved a mistake that many of us are also guilty of: “Straightening or blow-drying your flyaways to make them go down.”
The heat can cause further damage to these strands and inhibit their growth.
Although some viewers said they can’t avoid the first mistake—ballerinas, military personnel—most looked forward to implementing these tips into their routines:
“You are a life saver!” one user commented.
“For the flyaways I use a little bit of Argan oil, total game changer,” added another.
