FANS of Police Academy are mourning the loss of one of their own after it was revealed that Art Metrano passed away.
It was announced on September 9, 2021, that the actor who played officer Ernie Mauser, passed away at the age of 84.
Art Metrano was an American actor and comedian[/caption]Born September 22, 1936, Metrano was known as an American actor and comedian.
Metrano got his start in the entertainment industry back in the 1960s after starring in Rocket Attack U.S.A. and over the years, starred in more than 100 productions.
He was most famously known for his role as Lt./Capt./Cmdt. Mauser in Police Academy 2 and Police Academy 3.
After a 40 year career, Metrano retired from acting in 2001 and had lived a quiet life ever since.
Matrano’s son Harry first confirmed the news of his father’s passing in an Instagram post.
“Yesterday I lost my best friend, my mentor, my dad,” Harry said. “He was and will always be the toughest man I know. I have never met someone who has over come more adversities than him…”
It was later revealed that Matrano death was a result of natural causes and he passed away peacefully at his home in Aventura, Florida.
Art Matrano was also a quadriplegic following an accident in 1989[/caption]While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Harry talked about his father’s accident that caused him to become a quadriplegic.
On September 17, 1989, Matrano had fallen off a ladder while working on his home and it caused him to fracturing his first, second and seventh vertebrae, leaving him as a quadriplegic.
“He was at the peak of his career when that happened, and then it just stopped,” his son told the media outlet. “But he managed to enjoy life and overcome adversity.”
After making a remarkable recovery, Matrano was inspired to make his one-man stage show, Metrano’s Accidental Comedy, where he was seen taking a few steps on stage.
