THEA White voiced the famous Muriel Bagge on the Cartoon Network show Courage the Cowardly Dog.
The actress passed away on July 31, 2021, according to her brother John Zitzner, who confirmed the news on Facebook.
Thea White was an American voice actress.
The 81-year-old acted on stage and formed part of a few Broadway productions.
She also served as the personal assistant for actress Marlene Dietrich during Dietrich’s later career.
Thea married musician Andy White and retired from acting shortly after.
She became a librarian and outreach specialist at the Livingston Public Library in Livingston, New Jersey.
The actress was widowed in 2015 after White passed away.
Thea passed away while recovering from surgery for a liver tumor, according to her brother.
In a previous post on July 19, John had asked fans and supporters to pray for her: “If you can, prayers for my sister Thea… surgery at Cleveland Clinic tomorrow morning to remove tumor in liver! Thanks!!”
However, on Saturday, July 31, John informed her fans that she had passed away.
“My sister recorded this prior to her surgery,” Zitzner captioned a video of White opening up about her recovery.
“She fought. She left us today at 11:05,” he concluded.
News of Thea’s death comes just days after it was announced that the Scooby-Doo and Courage the Cowardly Dog franchises were crossing over with one another in the upcoming film Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog.
Director and Producer Cecilia Aranovich told SyFyWire: “[The film] is definitely going to trigger acute nostalgia for those of us who grew up watching both Scooby-Doo and Courage shows and it will also bring these wonderful characters to a new generation of viewers.”
“Merging the two worlds in a cohesive manner was one of the most challenging aspects of production,” Aranovich added.
“But I feel we found the right balance by bringing in the design elements and the color palette from the Courage world, as well as infusing Scooby and the gang with the more over-the-top takes and reactions that are so characteristic of Courage.”
Thea voiced Muriel, a Scottish elderly woman and the owner of Courage, the dog.
In the show, Muriel is married to Eustace Bagge.
She is considered a damsel-in-distress in the series and an excellent cook.
Muriel is known for using a rolling pin to hit Eustace whenever he scares, teases, abuses, or otherwise mistreats Courage.
Thea voiced Muriel’s character for the show and its spin-offs from 1999 until 2021.
Amid the news of her passing, fans flocked to Twitter to discuss her impact on the Cartoon Network series.
One person tweeted: “Rest in peace Thea you gave such great adventures with courage and Muriel as well warming reunion with the two.“
Another wrote: “R.I.P. Thea White. You were a wonderful voice actress who voiced such a kind and motherly figure to her dog Courage.
“Muriel Bagge is a sweetheart who deserves the world. And so are you! May you Rest In Peace!”
Thea reprised her role of Muriel in the 2006 video game Cartoon Network Racing and the 2014 short The Fog of Courage.
Her voice also appeared in Scooby Doo! Crossover Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog episode.
Throughout her career, Thea voiced nearly 52 episodes of Courage the Cowardly Dog.
Additionally, she was the voice of Pecola in the show Corey, and Aunt Margaret in Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur.
