CORONATION Street has been bombarded with complaints about evil Geoff Metcalfe’s campaign of cruelty against wife Yasmeen Nazir.
Telly watchdog Ofcom told The Sun Online today that 146 viewers had complained to them following just four troubling episodes of the soap.
The ITV drama’s fans viewers have had to watch cobbles baddie Geoff psychologically tormenting the sweet-natured lady for weeks as he tries to take complete control of her life.
He isolated her friends and family, and slowly turned poor Yasmeen into a shell of her former bubbly self.
Complaints for a single episode peaked at 74 at the start of February after Geoff locked her inside a box when one of his magic tricks went wrong.
However, the abuse has been rumbling on far longer, with Geoff tearing up a photograph of Yasmeen’s dead son back in July last year.
He also had cameras fitted inside her house so he can track her every move – and switched between berating her and giving her the silent treatment.
It had looked as though Geoff’s campaign of terror might have come to an end when Cathy overheard his abuse of Yasmeen.
But the slippery bully covered his tracks by telling everyone she is an alcoholic, and then convinced his wife that she has a problem so she wouldn’t deny it.
And coming episodes will see his abuse step up another gear after he kills her beloved pet chicken Charlotte.
The character, played by Ian Bartholomew, has quickly become a hate figure for viewers, with one tweeting: “Absolutely hate Geoff.”
Another wrote: “That Geoff is a nasty piece of work!”
A third insisted: “I don’t think I’ve hated a #Corrie character as much I hate Geoff.”
