MANY names fall in and out of fashion over the years – but some remain popular throughout the decades.
Birth announcements have revealed that monikers such as Charlotte and James have stood the test of time over the past 50 years.
Charlotte remains popular for girls, and has ranked number one 15 times between 1984 and 2017.
This could be helped by Princess Charlotte, four, winning hearts when she is out in public.
One adorable moment of the royal tot showed her refusing to give her bouquet to royal aide after she was gifted them by ‘star struck’ fan on Christmas Day.
The number one boys name is James, which has also been a hit over the years, perhaps inspired by the James Bond films or actors like James McAvoy.

Also popular was Sarah, which took second place, and was a hit with parents before dropping in popularity in the 80s.
Florence was seventh on the list, with Isabella and Alice in eighth.
Meanwhile, Thomas was second for boys, and William in third.
This was followed by Andrew in fourth, Edward in sixth and George in eighth, showing that many parents could be inspired by the royal family.
This doesn’t translate to all royal female names, however, as Catherine, Kate or Meghan didn’t make the top 10 list.
