Col. Scott Green, the director of the Army’s Command and General Staff School found dead, Investigation launched
Col. Scott Green, the director of the Army’s Command and General Staff School (CGSS), was found unresponsive in his office at the Lewis and Clark Center at 8 a.m. on 15 June and pronounced dead.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our teammate. The magnitude of the loss is immeasurable and will be felt across our formation,” said Lt. Gen. Ted Martin, commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, and Commandant of the Command and Gen
eral Staff College. “He positively touched the lives of countless Soldiers, Families and Civilians across the force throughout his decorated career. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Green, 49, had been in his current position since July of 2019. He was a native of South Dakota. He began his Army career in 1994 after completing an ROTC program at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D.
As a career infantry officer, Green served in numerous leadership positons, including company command in the 75th Ranger Regiment, and command of a Brigade Combat Team (Airborne). He served for 27 years. He was a highly decorated combat veteran with multiple tours that included a combat parachute jump. His awards include the prestigious Army’s Legion of Merit and multiple Bronze Star Medals including one for valor.
His death is under investigation by Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. The Soldier’s family has also asked that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.
