Restore Citizenship Question On National Consensus Form? Americans Say Yes, Not Deciding Yet Says Supreme Court

Left Out: Rasmussen Survey says majority want citizenship question

The far left is “out” when it comes to restoring the citizenship question on the national census form, according to the latest results of a Rasmussen survey, siding with President Donald Trump and against Democrat party leaders.

According to Rasmussen, 64 percent of American adults think the citizenship question is a valid one, but it breaks down pretty fast along party lines. A whopping 87 percent of identified Republicans and 65 percent of independents agree with the idea, while Democrats are “evenly divided,” Rasmussen said.

This comes days after the U.S. Supreme Court “put the issue on hold,” Rasmussen said. It was hardly a victory for opponents of the citizenship question, as the high court merely “questioned the administration’s reasoning for adding the question and ordered the case to be reconsidered by a lower court” in an opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts.

The Trump administration wanted to put the citizenship question on the 2020 census form, but now USA Today is reporting that the administration is moving ahead with the printing of the forms without the question. It has not been part of the regular census since 1950, according to Rasmussen.

It’s a major point of contention between liberals and conservatives, with the latter insisting that the government should know how many non-citizens live here, while liberals worry that this may lead to deportations of people in this country illegally, and under-representation in Congress.

But this raises an even sharper question: Should illegal immigrants essentially be represented in Congress merely by being in this country?

The new survey results were released just as the immigration controversy has erupted over allegations from firebrand Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez about alleged inhumane conditions at the el Paso border station. She asserted that Border Patrol agents forced detainees to “drink out of the toilets,” according to a Fox News report.

AOC critics have fired back at the New York Democrat, calling the claim “ridiculous on its face.”

Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Tom Homan contended in a Fox News interview that Ocasio-Cortez is “clearly, intentionally misinforming the American public.”

“She’s lost all credibility,” Homan said.

There is an “apparatus” in the holding cells with what Fox News called “an attached sink and toilet, but two separate water lines.”

Immigration is just one issue now erupting on the political landscape, in the aftermath of last week’s two-segment Democratic presidential debate. Other issues, including gun control and the economy also were discussed by candidates.
