World Mobilizes, Sends Over 5,000 Birthday Cards to WWII Army Veteran, 101
Army Veteran John Frey’s family reached out and requested 101 birthday cards in recognition his 101st birthday 8 June.
The message went out nationwide, with letters streaming in from 50 states and world wide, with letters pouring in from 12 countries according to AP. Even the Japan times ran the AP article that featured Frey and his Birthday hoorah.
Entire classrooms of children, military veterans and Utah’s elected officials wished the mechanic/machinist for the U.S. Army a happy birthday, Detroit news and AP wrote.
Frey was pleased and the family overwhelmed. Opening the letters was at first a novelty, then became a bit much according to the Detroit news who quoted him as saying:
“I just want to get in my car and take off for a while,” said Frey. He lived at home until he hit 100 then moved to Bennian Veteran’s home, and still enjoys going for drives in his car.
