Iceland’s government says the country will hold a referendum in August on whether to restart European Union membership talks. On Friday, the Cabinet approved a plan for a vote on Aug. 29. Parliament still needs to sign off before any vote happens. The push comes as security worries grow and U.S. President Donald Trump threatens to take over neighboring Greenland. Iceland paused EU talks more than a decade ago amid concerns the island nation would lose control of its lucrative fishing grounds. Iceland participates in the EU’s single market through the European Economic Area, and is part of the Schengen free-travel zone.
