New York Attorney General Letitia James is ordering NYU Langone to resume providing gender-affirming care for transgender patients under the age of 19. In a letter sent to the hospital, her office said the hospital may be violating New York's anti-discrimination law. NYU Langone recently shut its Transgender Youth Health Program, pointing to the “current regulatory environment” and the departure of a director. The dispute follows federal proposals to cut Medicare and Medicaid funding for hospitals that provide this care. James’ office says those proposals do not change the hospital's obligation to treat patients. NYU Langone declined to comment.
