A South Korean court has sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to life in prison for rebellion tied to his short-lived martial law order. On Thursday, judges said his move amounted to an attempted power grab. Prosecutors said the crisis started in early December 2024, when Yoon targeted an opposition-led National Assembly. He declared martial law on television, but lawmakers voted within hours to lift it. Investigators later detained his aides and moved against Yoon. He was impeached and removed from office.
