Singapore is piloting the world’s first sustainable aviation fuel levy. It will slightly raise prices for airline passengers and cargo carriers flying to and from the city-state of 6 million people, home to Southeast Asia’s busiest airport. The aim is to encourage use of sustainable aviation fuel, which burns cleaner than typical jet fuel. The global aviation industry is promoting its use to slash rising carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. Southeast Asia is poised to become a hub for global production of the lower-emitting fuel as new facilities and policies launch across the region.
