President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to sidestep the United Nations through his new Board of Peace appears to have inadvertently backfired. Major world powers have rejected U.S. aspirations for the board to have a larger international mandate beyond the Gaza ceasefire and they've recommitted their support for the U.N. Trump’s ambition for the board to be a global conflict mediator is a not very subtle attempt to eclipse the U.N. Security Council. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the board is focused on Gaza right now and isn't meant to replace the U.N. But U.S. allies and adversaries alike have dismissed Trump’s latest plan to overturn the post-World War II international order.
