Four-term Texas Sen. John Cornyn is in the political fight of his career. Cornyn is in a primary contest that will test how much of a place remains in President Donald Trump's Republican Party for establishment allies who are not seen as MAGA warriors. Cornyn faces state Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt in the March primary while enduring criticism the 73-year-old incumbent's moment has passed. Cornyn argues Congress already has enough performance artists and his state needs an effective legislator. But some Republican voters equate being brash and aggressive with being conservative. The race is expected to go to a runoff.
