The Democratic convention presents Fox News Channel with a delicate challenge — how to cover a party suddenly enthused about its election chances when much of its audience has a different political view. Fox showed President Joe Biden's valedictory speech but skipped many others. Its personalities called the proceedings “boring” and the start of a “week of lies. Kamala Harris was depicted as an inexperienced ”princess." Fox says it is presenting far more Democratic points of view than in the past. Читать дальше...
A celebratory roll call marked Vice President Kamala Harris' nomination as the Democratic candidate for president. Leaders of the party, including former President Barack Obama, stepped up to regale attendees at the Democratic National Conference with the qualities she would bring to the job. They also had a few chosen words for her opponents, former President Donald Trump and Ohio Sen. JD Vance, some of them a little off the mark.
The Democratic National Convention heads into its third day on Wednesday. Democrats will hear from Gov. Tim Walz, the vice presidential candidate, who will accept the nomination. According to convention organizers, the theme for Wednesday’s events is... Читать дальше...
Former President Bill Clinton is preparing to deliver his 12th address to the Democratic National Convention. Clinton speaks Wednesday night, facing uncertainty about the impact he'll have on a party that is trying to prevent Donald Trump's return to the White House. His appearances include a 1988 speech that went long and became the butt of jokes, and a 2012 speech aiding Barack... Читать дальше...
Vice President Kamala Harris is accepting the Democrats’ presidential nomination Thursday, exactly 60 years after another Black woman mesmerized the nation with a speech that still resonates in American politics. Fannie Lou Hamer was a leader of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. In 1964, the racially integrated group challenged seating of an all-white Mississippi delegation to the Democratic National Convention. Hamer told the credentials committee about losing her home and being beaten because of civil rights activities. Читать дальше...

The Arizona Supreme Court has ruled that a 200-word summary that advocates used to collect signatures is valid, clearing the way for voters to decide on the constitutional right to an abortion. The ruling came Tuesday. Under the measure, abortions would be allowed until an embryo or fetus could survive outside the womb, typically around 24 weeks. There are some exceptions for later-term abortions to save the mother’s life or to protect her physical or mental health. The decision comes on the heels of a Thursday ballot printing deadline.
Convention roll call votes can be staid and cheesy, but Democrats turned theirs into the ultimate dance party on Tuesday. DJ Cassidy stood onstage in what appeared to be a double-breasted satin suit of royal blue, spinning a special song for each state and territory awarding their delegates to Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention. What America got was a mashup of an elite karaoke night: Detroit native Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” for Michigan and “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” from the Dropkick Murphys for Massachusetts. Dozens of former guerrilla fighters and their families have been forced to abandon their village in southern Colombia after receiving death threats from a rebel group that is still fighting the government. On Tuesday more than 80 people, including former fighters, their children and their spouses, left Miravalle for another village — also inhabited by former FARC fighters — 200 km to the south. They carried their animals and their belongings in a caravan that was organized by Colombia’s government. Читать дальше...
In Zimbabwe’s wildlife-rich but poverty stricken Chiredzi district, an ex-poacher recently released from prison now preaches the gospel of conservation. But increasing conflict between humans and animals, in large part due to climate change, is making that task difficult. Humans are invading forested areas for farmland, illegal hunting and tree logging, which means diminished animal habitats. Meanwhile, droughts and that squeezed habitat have made some animals more likely to raid settlements to survive. Читать дальше...
