The Carolina Panthers have opted to bench struggling sophomore quarterback Bryce Young in favour of veteran Andy Dalton; Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) will not go on the IR, but the Miami Dolphins have signed Tyler Huntley; and the Chiefs will be without RB Isiah Pacheco (fibula) for 6-to-8 weeks and will now take a look at one of their former RBs, Kareem Hunt.
Coming off back-to-back nine-win seasons, the Seattle Seahawks are gunning for double digits this year and so far, so good with a 2-0 mark heading into Week Three. In fact, with a home date against Tua-less Miami, Seattle is among the top home faves for the week.
Placekicker Jason Myers is off to a solid start, with double-digit Fantasy points in each of the first two games (he hasn’t missed a FG or extra point yet), so if you’re seeking a streaming option this week, he’s a great choice.
Heading into the 2020 season, we weren’t overly bullish, slotting him 20th in our Fantasy Kicker Rankings. Myers didn’t listen, finishing as a top 12 kicker. The crash came in 2021 when he sunk to 23rd, but he’s been gold since.
In fact, in 2022, Myers ranked as the No. 1 kicker in Fantasy points, and followed that up last year by finishing third, when he led the league in field goal attempts. This season, he’s again among the top 10, playing the hero in Week Two with a 31-yard field goal in overtime to beat the Patriots (see video below).
Consider Myers a low-end starter for Week Three.
On the other coast, the New York Giants are having an opposite experience. After winning nine games and going to the Divisional Round playoff game in 2022, the G-Men slipped to six wins last season and are still gunning for win No. 1 in 2024.
They’re only one game behind Philadelphia, Dallas and Washington, yet oddsmakers are clearly not bullish on the Giants’ chances of bouncing back and coming out on top of the NFC East. In fact, as per FanDuel, New York is currently a long shot (+2700) to win the division.
Now in year three of the Brian Daboll era, things seem to keep getting worse for this squad.
Placekicker Graham Gano — who has been around since before electricity — suffered a hamstring injury on the opening kickoff and will miss a few weeks. The fact that no backup was dressed made for an adventure in New York’s kicking game. One failed extra point by the punter prompted the team to go for it on fourth down when they were in FG range once, and twice go for two-point conversions after scoring TDs.
The Giants have been working out a bevy of kickers this week to address the situation. Expect practice squad PK Jude McAtamney to get a crack in Week Three, unless one of those tryout kickers impress enough to get the start. Clearly, this is a situation you want to avoid from a Fantasy perspective.
