In fact, he's gotten a bit worse each month, and is still trying to earn his first win in May as he takes the mound vs. Toronto on Monday evening. Even so, Burnes's record has been solid so far and his ERA (supported by an xERA of 2.99) is at its lowest level since that stellar 2021 campaign.

And, no, it was not worth the wait, despite improved control. This year, however, Lively looks like a completely different pitcher, notwithstanding a rough outing Thursday. Overall, he's fared quite well over his first five starts for the Tribe thanks to a sinker that's never performed better. In fact, other than his slider, Lively is seeing better results will all his offerings, even getting positive value out of his changeup and cutter for the first time in his career. We're not 100 per cent sold on the sustainability of his results... Читать дальше...
Despite losing the Sugar Bowl, the Texas Longhorns' final season in the Big 12 was a successful one as the club improved for the second straight year, posting a 12-2 record to finish in first place in the conference.

For now, Bart is seeing changeups much less often this season, and that's good because he's never fared well against the pitch. Bart's work behind the plate was questionable when he was in high school, but he's made amazing progression since then to the point that if he landed a full-time gig, he could compete for some defensive hardware.

Employing the wire can provide value in tons of ways. Sometimes, it offers a temporary fix for an injury issue or it’s simply a case of jumping on a hot player for the short term. But when you pick up a player and he sticks on your team for the entire season — or even most of it — and contributes throughout, that is the true definition of waiver wire gold.

He delivered an RBI single on Thursday, giving him four RBI in two games as he had raised his BA to a respectable level (before an 0-fer on Friday) while displaying much more pop than he did during his 56-game look at this level last year. Best of all, Fernandez's strike zone judgment is vastly improved. Could he get a look at Coors before season's end?

He enjoyed a career season as a reserve in 2022, but last year struggled with injuries and ineffectiveness. Now, Guillorme has another chance to offer some value thanks to Albies' toe woe, and so far, he's delivering. Guillorme played the hero on Tuesday, spanking a two-run double to give the Braves the cushion they would need to close out the Astros. Before taking an 0-fer on Wednesday, he had hits in back to back games and if he can reverse a three-year trend of a declining walk rate, he could... Читать дальше...
As mentioned above, Hughes' season is done, and Bowers has taken his place on the top line, making him an intriguing late-season flier. A 2017 first round pick, Bowers has yet to post a point through five games this season, but he's starting to see more PT and generate shots, so the production should come. He did flash some offensive potential in the AHL this season with nine goals in 40 games.

Using the wire can provide value in multiple ways. Sometimes, it offers a temporary fix to an injury issue or it’s simply a case of jumping on a player delivering short-term value. But when you pick up a player and he sticks on your team for the entire season (or even the lion’s share) and contributes throughout, that is the true definition of waiver wire gold.

We haven't seen the offense flowing from Duran in recent games, but he's proven he can rack up plenty of counting cat numbers in a part-time role (55 runs in just 439 plate appearances last season), so he's worth grabbing to see what he can accumulate playing almost every day.
