Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an injury update on four players ahead of the Premier League clash against Newcastle United at Old Trafford tomorrow.
The Red Devils have had a poor run of results following the March international break and they have picked up only eight points from a possible 24 in the top-flight.
As a result, the club are currently three points behind Chelsea and Newcastle, who are seventh and sixth respectively in the league table with superior goal differences.
Tomorrow’s game against the Magpies is a must-win to keep their European hopes alive. In his pre-match presser, Ten Hag has provided some positive news on the injury front.
The Dutchman revealed that Lisandro Martinez should return to the matchday squad if everything goes right in the final training session, he said: “Very good question. Licha Martinez, I think he will return in the squad.”
“He has now [had] some sessions with us and we plan for him to be available. This afternoon, [if] everything goes right in the training, he will return in the squad.”
Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford returned to team training before the Arsenal game last weekend, but they were surprisingly not fit enough to make the matchday squad.
Willy Kambwala, on the other hand, featured off the bench after recovering from his injury. Ten Hag added that the trio could be involved if they are fit enough.
He added: “For some other players, we have to see. Rashford, Bruno, Willy Kambwala, if they are fit enough.”
The manager also had something more to say about Fernandes, who has been linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League over the last 24 hours.
Ten Hag explained that he has been a tremendously important player and there is no reason for the club to part ways with their club captain in the near future.
“I think that it is clear. He is, also now, but I think in all the years, I think he was a tremendously important player for Manchester United and creating the most chances across the whole Premier League. So many assists, so many goals, it is clear he is a very important player for us,” Ten Hag clarified.
Varane confirmed his decision to leave United earlier today. The Frenchman has been nursing an injury, but could be involved in the final two games of the season, as per Ten Hag.
