Disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is expected to start serving her 11-year prison sentence Tuesday – and it’s going to be a big shock to her system.
Holmes, who fraudulently claimed to have developed a revolutionary blood-testing system that needed only a drop of blood, is expected to be sent to Bryan federal prison camp, 100 miles from Houston. And The Insider got hold of an inmate handbook detailing what her life is going to look like.
Every day, she will be woken at 6 a.m. and ordered to make her own bed, mopping her floor and taking out her trash, the handbook says.
She’ll likely share her cell with roommates as each room has two sets of double bunks, the Insider said. She’ll have a locker for her belongings and the cell won’t have a door.
Holmes, who will wear khaki prison jumpsuit for the next 11 years, will be expected to have a prison job – which would pay between 12 cents and 40 cents an hour. She’ll be surrounded by 650 women who have been convicted of white-collar crimes.
The Insider reported that some inmates and guards are looking forward to her arrival, with one corrections officer reportedly joking about her scrubbing pans.
Holmes, who recently have birth to her second child, was convicted in 2022 four counts of fraud and conspiracy.
She’s made several efforts to avoid prison but, on May 16, her latest request to remain free while appealing conviction was denied.
