Three first half goals were enough for Queen's to take all three points in their CAS Elite Under 18 League game against Motherwell yesterday afternoon at Lochinch.
Darryl Carrick and Tyrece McDonnell scored within minutes of each other midway through the first half with Conor Falls adding a third in the 34th minute. In between Queen’s second and third goal Motherwell’s Dylan Well scored a superbly struck free kick.
Jamie Bradley added a fourth ten minutes from time with Motherwell’s Dylan Wells converting from the penalty mark three minutes later.
Motherwell kicked off in perfect football weather – dry, sunny with a slight breeze and took the game to the young Spiders in the opening ten minutes, without creating any real chances. Queen’s were putting themselves under pressure with some slack passing out from defence.
In the 12th minute Motherwell’s Zack Flatman got behind the Queen’s defence to head the ball goalward only to be flagged for offside.
Seven minutes later Darryl Carrick broke out of defence, raced 60 yards into the Motherwell defence, passed the ball into the box, only to see it cleared before Queen’s forwards could react.
In the 22nd minute Queen’s opened the scoring. From a corner on the left the ball was cleared out to Tyrece McDonnell. Tyrece took a step back and delivered a superb cross into the ‘Well six yard box where Darryl Carrick met the ball and headed past the keeper into the corner of the net.
Before Motherwell could recover Queen’s were two up. Jamie Bradley recycled the ball in midfield, played an excellent defence splitting pass wide right to Aidan McGinlay, who took the ball to the byeline before cutting the ball across the goalline for Tyrece McDonnell to tap home. Two goals in two minutes for the young Spiders.
‘Well pulled one back in the 28th minute when they were awarded a free kick at the edge of the Queen’s box. Dylan Wells stepped up to hit an unstoppable shot over the wall into the corner of the net. A well struck goal.
Queen’s immediately responded with a fast break with Tyrece McDonnell forcing a fine save from Jack McConnell in goal for the Steelmen.
Conor Falls added a third in the 34th minute. Ross Mclean picked the ball up in midfield, drove past two defenders and crossed the ball into the Motherwell box for Conor to smash the ball past the keeper from 10 yards out.
Three minutes from the interval Jamie Bradly was through on goal, but the Motherwell keeper denied him with a fine save.

Nine minutes into the second half Sam Kane had to look lively to push a Motherwell header past the post.
The second half continued with both teams cancelling each other out, with most of the play in the middle of the park and not a lot of goalmouth action.
Ten minutes from time Jamie Bradley added a fourth for Queen’s when he met a cross played to the ‘Well back post and knocked the ball into the far corner of the net.
Three minutes later Motherwell were awarded a penalty when one of their players was pulled back in the box. Wells stepped up and sent keeper Sam Kane the wrong way to make the score 4-2 to Queen’s.
