Time to talk about Mike Sulivan
Coaching can always be a lightning rod for attention and criticism when times are tough, and Mike Sullivan is certainly in that spotlight now. The Penguins haven’t made the playoffs in two years. They haven’t won a playoff series in now six years. It’s a long ways from the days of glory in 2016 and 2017 down on Fifth Ave. these days.
(Then again, it was only three years ago when the Penguins won a very tough division and the overwhelming majority of the fanbase thought he was doing a good job. That feels like a lot longer ago given how loudly most have turned.)
And yet, Sullivan holds onto his position. It can be frustrating to some to see the Penguins more committed to stability behind the bench in an industry where that’s almost never the case, but it hasn’t and won’t change Sullivan’s job security. His bosses gush over him. His star players revere him.
Lately some talk has picked up about Sullivan looking to leave Pittsburgh of his own volition. It’s been refuted by the Pens, but now more rumors have been swirling that Sullivan and GM/President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas may disagree about the future of the assistant coaches on the staff. That’s all unbased conjecture to this point, but it’s difficult to ignore the amount of little ditties and rumors that are coming out these days.
Now, to the poll!
