TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Shenendehowa and Saratoga Springs baseball teams have been the best in Class AAA throughout the season, earning the No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively, in the sectional tournament. That reigned true throughout the playoffs, with the two teams beginning a best-of-three championship series at Joe Bruno Stadium Thursday night.
It was a pitcher's duel for most of the night. Both Shen's James Redick and Saratoga's Christian Mello took scoreless outings into the sixth inning.
In the sixth inning, Mello bounced a pitch with a runner on third. Jordan Pazienza came into score while the pitch rolled to the backstop. The Plainsmen took a 1-0 lead into the seventh and final inning.
But there was no quit in the Blue Streaks. With two on and one out, Raul Rodriguez smacked a base hit into left center, bringing in Macklan Harris with the tying run.
With two outs, Camden Rhude came through with another base hit. Josh Delnicki came in with the go-ahead run. Saratoga rallied for two more runs in the inning, on their way to a 4-1 win in game one.
The Blue Streaks will look to close out the Plainsmen Friday night at 7:00 PM, while Shen will look to push it to a game three.
