Petr Janeba, Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, underscores the significance of naming in the automotive realm. Previous models like Kushaq and Slavia were chosen to resonate with Indian heritage, aligning with Skoda’s tradition of meaningful nomenclature. With the ‘Name Your Skoda’ campaign, the company continues this legacy, offering people across India the opportunity to contribute to the naming process for the new SUV.
The ‘Name Your Skoda’ campaign shows Skoda Auto India’s commitment to engaging its community. Participants are encouraged to suggest names for the upcoming compact SUV, adhering to specific criteria such as starting with the letter ‘K’ and ending with ‘Q’, with one or two syllables. The response has been overwhelming, with over 130,000 name suggestions received, including nearly 20,000 unique names.
In the next phase of the campaign, participants are invited to visit the dedicated microsite, nameyourskoda.com, to vote for their preferred names from the shortlist. Additionally, participants can propose new names and share their choices on social media platforms using the hashtag #NameYourSkoda. The winner of this contest will have the privilege of being among the first owners of the new Skoda compact SUV, scheduled for launch in the first half of 2025.
Apart from the grand prize of owning the new SUV, ten fortunate winners will enjoy an exclusive trip to Skoda Auto in Mlada Boleslav and explore Prague, one of Europe’s most enchanting cities. Running from March 28 to April 12, 2024, the campaign aims to foster a sense of pride and belonging among participants, generating anticipation for the SUV’s debut in India.
Skoda’s legacy of meaningful naming traces back to the introduction of the ‘Kodiaq’ in 2017, reflecting the strength and grandeur associated with the Kodiak bear. Building on this tradition, the new compact SUV will continue Skoda’s SUV family naming convention, embodying the brand’s commitment to excellence and resilience.
