The pair had taken cocaine and GBH before engaging in rough sex.
A man hanged himself after he strangled his girlfriend to death in a sex game gone wrong, an inquest has heard.
Georgia May Brooke, 26, and Luke Cannon, 31, had taken cocaine, GHB and alcohol before engaging in rough sex in February 2022.
But Mr Cannon, a personal trainer and gym teacher, choked Ms Brooke, a professional dancer, until she fell unconscious and went into cardiac arrest.
Paramedics found Ms Brooke naked and without a pulse on her boyfriend’s bed.
She was pronounced dead later at Bradford Royal Infirmary, but Mr Cannon had fled the hospital after medical staff alerted police.
He told a senior registrar: ‘Her mum is going to kill me. I should have died instead.’
He then phoned a friend saying, ‘tell her mum I’m going to be with her’.
Bradford Coroner’s Court heard Mr Cannon climbed over a wall into a wooded area and hanged himself.
Detective Sergeant Phil Hardwick, of West Yorkshire Police said Mr Cannon was wanted on the suspicion of murder Ms Brooke.
But he added all sex between the couple was consensual.
He told Coroner Martin Fleming: ‘It’s fair to say there are text messages consistent with Georgia having an interest in choking in a sexual point of view.’
Police found Ms Brooke searched ‘why do I like being choked psychology?’
Pathologist Dr Christopher Johnson said Ms Brooke would have lost consciousness around 15 to 30 seconds into being choked.
But Mr Cannon continued to apply pressure to her neck longer after she passed out – causing her to go into cardiac arrest.
Dr Johnson confirmed the cause of death as manual strangulation, but there was also ‘potentially fatal’ levels of GHB in her system, alongside cocaine and alcohol.
Ms Brooke’s mother, Samantha Beaumont, described her daughter as a gifted and hard-working dancer who had passed dance exams with distinction and had later won a scholarship to a prestigious performing arts school in London.
She had worked as a dancer at a hotel in Crete and was looking forward to returning to Greece at the time of her death.
Ms Beaumont said: ‘The impact on my family has been huge. We are devastated beyond belief. Georgia has gone, leaving a huge hole.’
Recording a verdict of ‘unlawful killing’ on Ms Brooke, the coroner Mr Fleming said: ‘She was consensual to the sexual practices she adopted with Luke.
‘There is no evidence he suggested to kill Georgia, he was primarily motivated by sexual gratification.’
He said it was a ‘sex game gone wrong.’
He said: ‘This type of sexual activity is dangerous and is reckless and it all too often results in fatal consequences.
‘This should send a strong deterrent message to those who engage in such sexual practices. There is no margin for error , particularly when using drugs .
‘The great tragedy here is that it has resulted in the death of a young woman who had a very bright future ahead of her .’
