Tam High locked up a berth in next week’s CIF Northern California Regionals with Monday’s third-place finish at the North Coast Section Division I boys golf championship at Tilden Park in Berkeley.
Paced by Ben Friedman’s 1-under 70, Tam finished at 389, behind champion De La Salle (353) and San Ramon Valley (384). Hayden Thill shot a 72 for the Red-tailed Hawks, ahead of teammates Abe Willard (79), Max Berg (80), Paxton Miller (88) and Jack McIntire (101).
The morning start in Berkeley was delayed for an hour by thick fog that made it difficult to see the greens.
Tyler Davis returned to the lineup to help Terra Linda to seventh place (403). Davis, who missed the MCAL championship with a hand injury, shot a 75 Monday, ahead of teammates Sean Madden (80), Derek Newhall (81), Micah Albers (83), Kaden Martin (84) and Stephan Roeck (96).
Redwood posted a solid 410, led by matching 77s from Jack Mount and Brody Root. Cole O’Connell (81), Sam Sumski (87), Julian Shayeb (88) and Sebastian Shayeb (93) helped the Giants finish in 12th place.
Marin Catholic’s Mason Sylvester came in at 78, while Marin Academy’s Charlie Hansen shot a 79, with teammate Charlie Wilhelm right behind at 81.
The NorCal Regionals return to the East Bay on Monday, May 20, at Berkeley Country Club.
